Myrtle Monica Nelson

In Loving Memory of Myrtle Monica Nelson

Myrtle Monica Nelson, lovingly known as Mercs or Miss Mercs, was a beacon of kindness and gentleness.

Her soft-spoken nature and nurturing spirit touched the hearts of everyone she encountered.

Born in 1920, Mum embarked on a new chapter in her life when she followed her soon-to-be husband to England in the early 1950s. This journey was part of the remarkable story of the Windrush generation, filled with both challenges and new adventures.

As a devoted mother of eight, Mum balanced the demands of family life with a fulfilling career.

Her unwavering dedication to her children and her work was a testament to her resilient spirit.

Not one to shy away from personal growth, she attended evening classes, eagerly honing her skills in cake decorating and sewing. Our home was often filled with the delightful remnants of her creativity—pieces of fabric waiting patiently for the next inspiring project.

Mum faced the trials of early-onset dementia with grace, and even as the illness progressed, the warmth of her love continued to illuminate her eyes. In those challenging moments, we found comfort in the gentle smile of recognition that graced her face at the sound of a familiar voice of one of her loved ones.

Though Mum passed away at the tender age of 69, her memory and the love she bestowed upon us remain ever-present. No matter how many years have passed, the void left by her absence is profound. The pain of not having her by our side will never truly fade, but we carry her spirit with us, honouring the kindness and love she shared so freely.

Mum, you are deeply missed, and your legacy of love will forever live on in our hearts.

Gone but never forgotten
